The Coalition of Unions

A Coalition of Unions was formed at Memorial University in 2024 due to the alarming amount of budget cuts at our institution. The Coalition comprises both labour and student unions from Memorial University, including Grenfell Campus, Labrador Campus, Harlow Campus, and the Marine Institute.

#FundMUN

Many of the original St. John’s campus buildings are aging into disrepair, and it shows. In order to make a difference and to make our voices heard, many* of the unions at Memorial University got together in 2024 to create a movement by sharing our experiences, and pleading with government to return the 46% of funding that has been cut since 2013. The increasingly grim situation has been documented in the news, as shown on the campaign’s website at www.FundMUN.ca.

(* Note that the Medical School in the Faculty of Medicine is uniquely considered to be a separate entity, and is therefore exempt from the cuts and hiring freezes that have been implemented across the rest of Memorial University.)

Visit the website to get involved with the #FundMUN campaign, by contacting your provincial government representative, or sharing your own story about how you’ve been affected.
